Their Favorite Dress - Fort Wayne, Indiana Wedding and Portrait Photographer Morgan Ruth Photography

I've recently let go of dressing my daughters. It feels like yesterday they were born and I began dreaming of dressing them in every adorable outfit I could find.  Buying their clothes still consumes me and is one of my favorite things to do.  They're 3 and a half now.  They started pre school this week and they've begun to form their own style...which is typically some type of frilly dress.  I guess I shouldn't complain, it could be worse.

When the new year came...my social media feeds were filled with people making resolutions to lose weight or do this or that...being that I was 8 months pregnant, weight loss was far from my mind.  I decided my goal for the year, and hopefully here on out, was to photograph my family.  I spend my time doing something I am very passionate about, photographing people with the ones they love...but by the time it comes to photographing the ones I love...it always falls to the wayside.  I decided this year that has to end.  This summer I've tried to take my camera along with us on occasional adventures each week and decided to just capture our life the way it is.  The girls are very affectionate with each other.  I think it is safe to say they are almost always touching.  They hold hands, hug and kiss each other freely. Recently, they've been obsessed with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and have been replaying a line between Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregarde where Veruca says "Lets be friends..." and Violet responds "Best friends..." and they link hands and walk off....The girls re enact this scene almost 30 times a day, I can't help but hope they stay this way forever.  But in the chance that they don't, that someday they need a reminder how at one point in their life they were totally inseparable, I want to show them these images. I need to be intentional about photographing my own family...to capture my own memories.

Anyway, I don't dress my children anymore.  They do that themselves.  They pick out their own outfits.  Sometimes they match...most often not.  Sometimes they're just...naked.  They pick out their own bows, their own shoes and insist on putting it on themselves.  What I can tell you, is that they have some wild untamable hair and they prefer it to be all over the place...I've learned at this age that I just need to step back and let go, even if that means that somedays they look totally homeless.  They're forming their own preferences and style now, it's my time to sit down and enjoy watching them grow into themselves.  And that's really hard to do.
